Ross Care Team News: Rising Star

13th March 2019

Ross Care Newcastle is pleased to announce the recent recruitment of Paula Kennedy to the role of Mobile Services Engineer.

Paula joined Ross Care as a customer services advisor in June 2017. Expressing an interest in the mechanical side of the operation, and after a short trial, Paula was appointed to Manual Refurbishment Technician in June 2018. Quickly learning mechanical skills within Ross Care’s manual refurbishment team, Paula has been averaging 40 refurbishments per week, and is also current ‘record holder’ at Ross Care Newcastle with an output of 67 wheelchair refurbishments, in a single week!

Whilst Paula did not start Ross Care with any mechanical experience, she has taken every opportunity to develop her skills to increase her capability, including training on the NVQ in Electrical and Mechanical Maintenance. With this success, Paula will be transitioning into her new role in the upcoming weeks and will be responsible for the South Tyne area.

“Since my first day at Ross Care I’ve loved working here, everyone has been so helpful and supportive to me. I always like to set myself new challenges and learn new skills, so when new learning opportunities arise, I go for them’’

Operations manager for Ross Care Newcastle, Dominic Debnam said “I am really pleased to promote Paula to the Mobile Service Engineer role. Being the first female member of staff to carry out this role on the Newcastle contract is a real positive in breaking barriers and perceptions that may exist about the Mobile Services Engineer role here at Ross Care Newcastle.

Whilst the pathway is not one that I would have normally expected, it demonstrates that we are able to offer our employees opportunities to move around the business to develop their skills to enable career progression. She will bring a unique perspective to the role having experienced the other side of the engineer – customer service relationship, which, I expect will ensure we provide an excellent service from the first contact through to customer service delivery, in the South Tyne area."

Paula Kennedy added; “Since my first day at Ross Care I’ve loved working here, everyone has been so helpful and supportive to me. I always like to set myself new challenges and learn new skills, so when new learning opportunities arise, I go for them’’ Adding ''...I’m excited to start my new role as a mobile services engineer and help make a difference in the community''.
